The First Page

The First Page

When you get a new journal there is always that moment of realisation that you have another first page to fill. There are so many different options on how you could do this, will you create an art spread? Will you include relevant information in case your journal is lost? Or, will you have a page for the Wiccan rede, or something similar like a blessing? Whatever your muse, it can be overwhelming sometimes. In this blog we will look at a few different options you could use to help you create your first page.

Journal owner details

You may be someone that takes your journal with you everywhere, so creating a page that has a few key details about yourself may be the most obvious choice for you and your first page. So, what details would you put in your journal, just in case there is a situation where you may misplace it while you are out and about on your adventures? We would suggest something like this:

This journal belongs to: Name
Contact Number
A little message of thanks and instruction

Something like this could be the difference between you never seeing your journals again or being reunited with your writing companion with help of the good will from someone who found it. Of course, you do not need to write  the exact example like above, you should make it relative to you and your journal and writing journey. You can spice up this page with art, stickers, washi tapes or scrap paper or you can leave it clean and to the point, whichever speaks to you most.

Art

You may be someone who is very creative and artistic; a great idea for you could be to use your first page to create a mural of sorts, where you cover the page with some beautiful art which sings to your soul and embodies you and your personality.

This could be little doodles, which all relate back to different hobbies, interests and things important to you. Another idea, you could sketch out one or more of your favourite flowers to fill your page. You want it so when you open your journal you are met with a piece that makes you smile. Of course, these are only a few of many ideas that you could use; everyone has their own styles and tastes so there are endless possibilities out there to gain inspiration from.

Quotes

You may choose to have your favourite quote fill your first page, or a quote that you draw inspiration from, which helps to really motivate you and makes you feel good. You could take one from your favourite book, your favourite programme or just one that you have heard and it really resonated with you. You could use different fonts, you make the words that count pop and you could fill the page with doodles that all relay back to the quote on your page.

“You will never have this day again, so make it count”

A book blessing or Wiccan Rede

Whether you just practice witchcraft or you follow wicca in your Grimoire or Book of Shadows you tend to have a page dedicated to a blessing or the Wiccan Rede. So, if you may be using your journal as your Grimoire or Book of Shadows, this may be the best first page for you.

A book blessing acts as both a blessing and a protection spell. You want to clear it of all energies but your own, ask Mother Earth, the elements, or whatever deity you follow to bless the pages, and ask them to protect the book from harm.

The Wiccan Rede is a statement that provides the key moral system in the neopagan religion of Wicca and certain other related witchcraft-based faiths. A common form of the Rede is An ye harm none, do what ye will which was taken from a longer poem also titled the Wiccan Rede.

We hope these suggestions help you to decide on how you are going to complete your first page, and even if you do not use any of the suggestions above we hope we have been able to spark your inspiration so you now have a clear idea.
